2 soldiers killed, 2 hurt in firing in Army camp

POONCH, July 15: Two Army soldiers were killed and two others injured in an alleged fratricidal firing at an Army camp in Surankote area of Poonch district today.
Reports said there was some clash between soldiers of 156 Territorial Army over duty issue and one of them Sepoy Ibrar Ahmed, hailing from Kalakote died on the spot while three others including Sepoy Makhan Singh, Naik Khalil Ahmed and Naik Imtiaz Ahmed were seriously injured.

As per reports Naik Imtiaz Ahmed opened firing in a barrack. During firing, one Army person died on the spot. Later, the injured including Makhan Singh and Imtiaz Ahmed were airlifted to Army Hospital Udhampur and one of them Naik Imtiaz Ahmed, succumbed to the injuries in Command Hospital, Udhampur.
Condition of Makhan Singh is also stated to be serious and he is also undergoing treatment in Udhampur Command Hospital. Another injured Naik Khalil Ahmed was admitted to Army Hospital, Rajouri for treatment.
Police have registered an FIR in Police Station Surankote vide No. 209 of 2022 under section IPC 302, 307 & Arms Act 30.
SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra told that after registration of an FIR police have started investigation into the case.
It is said that there was some duty issue during early morning hours around 5 am, over which Imtiaz in a fit of anger fired on Ibrar and others and then committed suicide by using the same gun. Panic gripped the camp and some presumed that militants might have attacked the camp. But later they could realize that it was firing act by one of the jawans.
Senior Army officers also visited the camp and ordered a court of inquiry. The bodies of the soldiers were handed over to their families after postmortem.
