2 noted drug-peddlers detained under PSA

RAJOURI, Sept 5: District police Rajouri, with an objective to curb the menace of drugs spreading in the society and save precious lives of local youth, for the first time got two noted drug-peddlers detained in the Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act-1988, falling under the purview of Public Safety Act for a period of one year.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal issued the orders on the recommendations of District Police chief Rajouri, Dr Haseeb Mughal. Setting a new trend perhaps for the first time in the region, to discourage the menace of drugs addition and saving lives of young generation, the two drug- peddlers responsible for spoiling lives of many youth of Rajouri area have been detained under PSA in Jammu jail.
They have been identified as Arshad Ahmed, son of Mohd Latief, resident of Dalogra village and Rajan Gupta alias Ladi, son of Raj Kumar Gupta, resident of Kalakote. They were booked several times by police but managed to get bail and used to start their activities again.
On the basis of details collected from all the Police Stations in district Rajouri against drug-peddlers, the SSP Dr Mughal after thorough screening forwarded the dossiers of these two persons to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Kotwal who finally issued the orders. Dr Mughal has issued special instructions to all the SHOs and Incharge Police Posts in the district to keep strict vigil on the activities of drug-peddlers and addicts and frame cases against them. The District Police Rajouri has also started a Drug Helpline bearing Telephone No. 01962-261786 for the convenience of general public. The public from district Rajouri has highly appreciated the move of the District police chief for his efforts to curb drug-addition.
