JAMMU, May 1: Two mortar shells were defused by Army in forward villages of Mendhar and Nowshera sectors in Poonch and Rajouri districts near the Line of Control (LoC) today.
Official sources said that some villagers noticed a live mortar shell in forest area of Mendhar sector of Poonch and subsequently informed the police and the nearby Army camp, the officials said.
A bomb disposal squad was rushed to the scene by the Army and the shell was safely defused.
Another mortar shell was found and subsequently defused near in Nonyal area of Nowshera sector in Rajouri district.
Both the old shells are believed to have remained unexploded during the cross-border shelling in the past, sources added.
