BANI (KATHUA), Oct 20: Two persons were killed after the load carrier bearing number JK08B 7376 in which they were traveling fell down into 500 feet deep gorge at Saproo near here late last night.
The dead have been identified as the driver of the load carrier Sunil Kumar 24, S/o Yash Paul of Bani and his accomplice Dheeraj, 20, S/o Mashu Ram of Chaloke Bani.
Police said that the driver during the dead of night while negotiating a sharp curve at Saparoo near Bani lost control on the steering and as the road was slushy due to heavy rain fall, the vehicle fell down into 500 feet deep gorge resulting into on spot death of the duo.
Their bodies were traced by locals in the morning after they saw the parts of load carrier lying scattered into a ditch 500 feet below the road.
They informed the Bani Police and immediately a police team led by Kamlu Ram Investigation Officer, PS Bani reached the spot and shifted the dead bodies to Bani Sub District Hospital for postmortem. They were handed over to their family members after postmortem and other legal formalities in the day for last rites.
The police has registered a case under Section 279/304.
The people in Bain while expressing shock over the loss of two precious lives have demanded that till the construction of Basholi –Bani road the authorities should install solar lights at sharp curves of the road to avoid such fatal accidents in future.
