2 killed, driver injured; trucks torched in Shopian

Srinagar, Oct 24 : A truck driver and a conductor were shot dead and another trader injured in Shopian district of South Kashmir as gunmen opened fire on them and set ablaze their trucks this evening.
A police officer said that the militants fired at the two trucks carrying apple at Chitragam in Zainapora area of Shopian district in South Kashmir this evening and set the trucks on fire.
A truck driver lIyas Ahmad Khan son of Nazar Khan of Alwar in Rajasthan and conductor of the truck who has not been identified died on the spot. Their bodies were recovered by a police party who reached on the spot and they were taken to Zainapora Hospital for postmortem.
Another truck driver Jeevan Singh son of Bakshi Singh of Kartarpur was critically injured in the attack.
He was rushed to Zainapora hospital and later to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for special treatment. He has received three bullets in his abdomen.
Security forces have launched a massive operation in the area to trace out the mllitants responsible for the attack. This is the third attack on the truckers and apple traders in Shopian district of South Kashmir for the last over one week.
A fruit merchant was killed and another critcally injured when militants fired at them in Shopian district of South Kashmir on October 16. The incident took place at Trenz village in Shopian. One of them Charanjeet Singh of Ferozpur in Punjab died on the spot and another Sanjeev Kumar of Gurdaspur Punjab was injured in the attack who is undergoing treatment in SKIMS, Soura.
On September 14, a truck driver along with a truck was set ablaze while his two associates had close shave in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
A truck bearing registration number RJ147759 from Rajasthan carrying apple was set ablaze at Sindoo in Shirmal area of Shopian district in South Kashmir and set ablaze. The truck driver Mohammad Sharif Khan was shot dead.
Over 50,0000 trucks of apple have been exported from Kashmir since August 5 with bulk of them over 20,000 trucks being exported from October 14 when truck driver was killed.
And in the meantime, a woman was killed and 7 civilians were injured as Pakistani troops violated ceaseflre in North Kashmir’s Tanghdar and Trehgam sectors today. Army retaliated heavily inflicting casualties on Pakistan.
A woman Hameeda Fatima wife of Riyaz Shah was killed and three other civilians Gulistan, Zalnao and Nuzhat were injured in village Pingla Haribal in Tanghdar today. The shell landed on two adjacent houses in which these people were killed and three others were also injured.
Four persons were injured in Drangyari area of Trehgam sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara sector today when Pakistani troops opened heavy mortar fire. Army gave befitting reply to Pakistani troops.
Meanwhile, Pakistani militants tried to burn down a school building but their attempt failed as locals protected the building.
Incident happend at Sheikh Mohalla, Chawalgam of Kulgam in South Kashmir. Fire was doused by civilians and no major damage being reported, sources said.
