2 killed, 46 injured as mini-bus, tempo plunge into gorge

DODA, Jan 25: Two persons including a woman were killed, while forty-six people received injuries in road accidents at different areas of the district.
As per police sources, a middle aged woman was killed while 35 others got injured when an overloaded mini-bus (canter) bearing registration number JK06-6959 skidded off the road and fell into deep nallah at Kahara area of the district today morning.
The mini-bus was on its way to Doda from Halaran, when the driver lost control on it and the vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into 200 feet deep nallah, resulting into on the spot death of a woman and injuries to 35 others.

After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the help of locals.
All the injured persons were shifted to Trauma Hospital Thathri and later referred to District Hospital Doda. 16 injured persons admitted in District Hospital were airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for advanced treatment.
The body of the deceased identified as Kulsuma Begum, wife of Safidar Hussain, a resident of Aichar Gandoh was also retrieved from the gorge and handed over to family members after completing legal and medical formalities.

A case under FIR Number 10/18 under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A RPC has been registered at Gandoh Police Station and manhunt has been launched to nab the driver, who escaped from the spot soon after the accident.
While talking to the EXCELSIOR, some of the injured persons stated that the driver was driving the mini-bus rashly and with his negligence, the mini-bus plunged into gorge and we landed in hospital.
“The violation of traffic rules by the passenger vehicle operators on the mountainous road goes unabated, which is proving fatal for those travelling in such vehicles and pedestrians. If traffic cops perform their duties with dedication and keep check over the vehicle operators indulging in overloading, the casualty and injuries in the accidents can be saved”, Pritam Sharma, a resident of Kahara said.
In another accident, a youth was killed, while eleven others were injured, when the tempo traveller they were traveling in, skidded off the road and plummeted into gorge near village Nalwa Ghat area, falling under the jurisdiction of Doda Police Station.
The ill-fated vehicle was on its way to Doda from Udhianpur, when the driver lost control over the vehicle due to some mechanical fault and it plunged into gorge near village Nalwa Ghat, resulting into injuries to twelve passengers.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to District Hospital Doda and two injured persons were airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu, where one of the injured failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Saleem (22), son of Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Breswana, while the injured have been identified as Mohammad Shafi, son of Ghulam Ali of Garather, Sapna Devi, wife of Sanjay Kumar of Korrala, Zahinda Begum, wife of Jahan Mohammad of Korrala, Jahan Mohammad, son of Ghulam Mahi Din of Korrala, Premkali, wife of Hushyar Singh of Sahha Mohallah Doda, Rani, wife of Pyar Singh of Dhara, Tansh, son of Pyar Singh of Dhara, Pyanshu, daughter of Pyar Singh of Dhara, Rhenashu, daughter of Pyar Singh of Dhara, Biyasa Devi, wife of Dewan Chand of Kamarbag and Sanjay Kumar, son of Chattar Singh of Korrala.
A case under FIR Number 17/18 under relevant Sections has been registered at Doda Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed sympathies with the passengers of a mini bus which met with accident at Kahara. She has also expressed grief over the death of a woman in the accident. Chief Minister has directed divisional administration to ensure specialized treatment to all the injured passengers. She has also directed airlifting of the critically injured to Jammu for specialized treatment.
Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in Prime Minister Office (PMO) and Member Parliament (MP) from Udhampur-Doda constituency has expressed grief over the loss of lives and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured persons. He stated that the J&K authorities should immediately implement the road safety guidelines to prevent such reoccurring incidents of road accident.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the road accidents. In his condolence message, Congress leader has conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family.
