JAMMU, Apr 12: Two persons were killed and 27 others sustained grievous injuries when an overloaded mini-bus plummeted into deep gorge after colliding head-on with a truck at Marog area in district Ramban on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway this morning.
The ill-fated mini-bus bearing registration number JK14B-0521 plunged into 1050 feet deep gorge after colliding head-on with truck bearing registration number JK02AE- 6059 near Marog area in district Ramban on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
After getting information, DC Ramban Farooq Shah Bukhari, police team led by SSP Ramban Randeep Kumar, Army personnel of 109 Territorial Army and 23 Rashtriya Rifles, Quick Response Teams, SDRF and locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
All the 28 injured persons were rushed to District Hospital Ramban in police and other vehicles, where one of the injured identified as Abdul Rahim Bali, son of Lassu Bali of Gandhri failed to respond to the treatment and breathed his last.
Later, seven seriously injured persons were rushed to helipad for airlifting to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, but one more injured person namely Sadar Din Wani, son of Hassanjoo of Alanbass also succumbed to his injuries at helipad and six were airlifted to Jammu.
The injured persons admitted in District Hospital Ramban and GMCH Jammu were responding to the treatment, when reports last came in.

A case under FIR number 44/15 under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A RPC has been registered at Police Station Ramban and manhunt has been launched to nab the truck driver, who escaped from the spot.
The tragic accident has brought to the fore inefficiency of the Traffic Police to check overloading of passenger vehicles, which is going on unabated right under the nose of cops in blue deployed on different locations on the National Highway.
Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ramban Farooq Shah Bukhari distributed immediate relief of Rs 5,000 from Red Cross to each 6 critical injured persons, who were airlifted to GMCH Jammu.
It is to mention that, on March 20, 2015, seven passengers were killed and five others were injured, when a over-loaded Tata Sumo plummeted into gorge near Shaitani Nallah in district Ramban.
