2 Kashmir based drug peddlers arrested with 21 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, Sept 14: Satwari Police under “Operation Sanjeevani” arrested two Kashmir based drug peddlers along with 21 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a police team led by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and assisted by SHO Satwari Inspector Manjeet Singh, ASI Mohammad Akram, Head Constable (HC) Rampal, Sgct Vikas Bali, Constable Paramjeet Singh and Constable Sunil Kumar under the supervision of SP South Sandeep Choudhary laid a naka near Jeevan Nagar and asked two pedestrians to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrians tried to escape, but the cops intercepted them after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 21 kilograms of poppy straw and arrested both the pederstrians, who have been identified as Harun Rasid, son of Salman Ahmed and Towfeeq Ahmed Wagay, son of Bashir Ahmed Wagay, both residents of district Kulgam.
During preliminary questioning, it came to fore that the accused had brought the consignment from Kashmir for selling among the youth in Jammu and surrounding areas. With their arrest, police achieved a major success to save the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 178/17 under Sections 8/15/29/60 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Satwari and further investigation of the case is going on.
