SRINAGAR, Mar 29 : Two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed and five soldiers injured in a gun battle at Chittergam, Nowgam in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district today and troops have recovered M4 sniper rifle from the encounter site.
A joint team of Army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF cordoned off Sutsoo Kalan area of Nowgam last night after inputs about presence of militants in the village. As the security forces intensified the searches, militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight.
Two militants were killed and five Army personnel injured in the gun battle. The injured soldiers were evacuated to Army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh for treatment.
A police spokesman, in a statement, said that the cordon-and-search operation was launched by police and security forces in the area following credible inputs about the presence of militants. Click here to watch video
“In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. From the incriminating material recovered at the site of encounter, it is understood that both the slain militants were Pakistani nationals identified as Ali Bhai and Idrees Bhai,” the spokesman said
“As per the police records, the militants were affiliated with JeM outfit and wanted by law for their complicity in a series of attacks including the attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities”, the spokesman said.
“They were involved in conspiring and executing many attacks in the area. Several crime cases were registered against both the militants,” he said.
“Arms and ammunition including rifles were recovered from the site of encounter. All the incriminating materials including rifles and ammunition have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other militancy cases. Police has registered a case in this regard,” the spokesman said. One AK-47 rifle and M4 carbine sniper rifle were among arms and ammunition recovered from the encounter site.
A man was shot at by militants at Nowpora village of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this evening.
Masked militants fired upon one Naseer Ahmad Ganie son of late Bashir Ahmad Ganie outside his home at Nowpora Amlar in Tral. He was injured critically and removed to hospital for treatment where from he was referred him to Srinagar hospital.
Naseer has received three bullet wounds, one in right leg, one in right arm and another in the shoulder.
Soon after the incident, a joint team of Army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area to nab the assailants.
Last evening one Manzoor Ahmad Hajam was injured critically after shot at by militants at Hajam Mohalla, Tral.
