2 IEDs defused, man held with 10 grenades

SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Security forces today arrested a man with 10 hand grenades and a pistol in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

An official said that the man who is an Over Ground Worker of militants was apprehended in a joint operation by security forces including soldiers from 28 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operation Group Sogam and CRPF at Dharmbadi area of Lolab Kupwara.
The official said that after receiving inputs, a special check-point was laid and a man identified as Ghulam Rasool Var of Gonipora Hyhama was arrested. They said that 10 hand grenades, a pistol, 2 pistol magazines and 15 rounds were recovered from his possession.
A case in this regard has been registered at Police Station Lalpora and investigation set into motion.
In the meantime, security forces today defused two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts.
An official said that an IED in a bag was thrown towards a police vehicle at Degree College in Gagran area of Shopian. He said that IED has been defused and a major incident was averted.
He said that the weight of IED was around 6 kg, adding that the investigation in this regard is going on.
Earlier in a day, an official said that security forces found an IED along Circular Road on Tahab area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
He said that IED was defused by Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and a major incident was averted. The official said that an investigation in this regard is going on.
