2 hurt as school beam collapses

MENDHAR, May 8: Two persons were critically injured as a concrete beam of a Government Middle School Khanetar, (Balakote zone) building collapsed on Wednesday.
The building is being constructed under SSA. It is said that due to sub-standard work being carried out by a local contractor, a portion of building collapsed. Two locals engaged at work were seriously injured. The local Panchayat members took serious note of the work and demanded inquiry into the quality of work being executed in the school, where children of the people of this area will study. They sought the intervention of  SDM and CEO Poonch.
The critically injured Mohd Shabir, son of Lal Khan and his son Mohd Shafat Khan were rushed to nearby Dhar Galoon Primary Health Centre on main road. There was no staff available for providing treatment to the victims at around 12 noon. The villagers got agitated and informed BMO Mendhar and the SDM.
The victims were rushed to Sub District Hospital Mendhar where doctors provided preliminary treatment and then referred them to GMC Hospital Jammu for head injuries and multiple fractures. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
Meanwhile, BMO Mendhar Dr Pervez Ahmed Khan attached entire staff of the PHC Dhar Galoon and sought explanation from the Medical Officer.  The SDM has ordered inquiry into the incident. It was said that work was being initiated under the supervision of concerned Zonal Education Officer.
