2 drug peddlers held, another booked under PSA

Srinagar, Mar 20: Two notorious drug peddlers were today arrested in North Kashmir’s Kupwara while one more from the Lolab area was booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
In this regard, the police said that on specific input about drug peddling, a police party from Police Post Drugmulla led by SHO PS Kupwara SI Rafiq Lone at a checkpoint established at Bumhama near FCI in presence of concerned Magistrate intercepted a person identified as Ashiq Ahmad Rather son of Habibullah Rather resident of Kandi.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 200 grams of Charas like substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
Meanwhile, police said, in another action, a police party of PS Kupwara at a checkpoint established at Regipora crossing intercepted a suspicious person identified as Waseem Ahmed Kaboo son of Farooq Ahmed kaboo resident of Maratgaam, Handwara.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 20 grams of brown sugar-like substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police said, adding during questioning the accused person disclosed that he was contacted by some drug addicts of the Kupwara area to deliver the drugs.
Accordingly, police said, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in Police Station Kupwara and further investigations in the cases are going on and more arrests are expected.
“Another drug peddler identified as Hilal Rashid Khan son of Abdul Rashid Khan resident of Maidanpora Lolab was today detained under Public Safety Act by Kupwara Police after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities. He was involved in the peddling of narcotics and other criminal cases in the jurisdiction of Police Station Lalpora Kupwara,” police said.
Apart from his involvement in several FIRs, police said, the accused had created an atmosphere of terror and fear among the general public of the area.
