2 drug peddlers arrested

KATRA, Oct 4: Continuing its drive against drug menace, Police today foiled an attempt of narcotics smuggling at the holy town Katra and arrested two peddlers, who were carrying heroin.
The accused were travelling in a car (JK20B-7551), which was intercepted by the Police party at Ballini Check Post. During checking and frisking, 12 grams heroin was recovered from the accused, were arrested on the spot.
They were identified as Mandeep Kumar Bhullar, son of Joginder Singh of village Mahmood Ka Mahal Ferozpur, Punjab and Rakesh Kumar son of Lajan of Sherbad, Tehsil Katra.
During the preliminary questioning, the accused persons confessed that they were illegally transporting the contraband substance for its sale among local youth in Katra town.
In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police station Katra for further investigation. Forward and backward linkages of the accused are being worked out by the Police.
The arrest was made by the Police party of PCP Ballini, led by SHO Katra, Insp Nishant Gupta under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Kuljeet Singh and overall supervision of SP Katra Amit Bhasin.
According to SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta, the District Police has booked and detained six notorious drug peddlers under Public Safety Act (PSA) and put them behind the bars.
