JAMMU, Apr 19: Two nomads and their nearly 40 sheep-goats were killed due to lightning in Reasi area, a house extensively damaged in velocity winds in Kalakote while hailstorm caused damage to fruits trees and other crops in Poonch- Rajouri belt today.
Reports said in a tragic incident this evening, two residents of Dharote village lost their lives after being struck by lightning at village Jameri (Dhansal), tehsil Arnas, in district Reasi.

The deceased were identified as Mohd. Rashid (52), son of Mohd. Kalu, and Shahbaz Begum (32), wife of Mukhtiar, both hailing from Dharote, tehsil Arnas.
Another individual, Gulzar, son of Abdul Rashid, also from Dharote, sustained injuries in the incident and is currently under medical care.
In addition to the human casualties, nearly 40 sheep and goats belonging to the deceased Mohd. Rashid also perished in the lightning, resulting in significant loss of livestock, an official said.
In Rajouri district, wind storm worst affected areas include, Kalakote tehsil and far-flung Mogla block, where strong winds lashed the entire area. Some houses with tin sheet roofs could not withstand the intensity of the storm.
According to Kalakote ADC Tanveer Ahmed, about 100 houses have been damaged and roofs of some school buildings have been uprooted. Many poor families in these areas had built their houses with limited resources. The iron/tin sheet roofs were blown away and all their household items were destroyed.
There has been extensive damage to infrastructure. Power supply lines have been completely disrupted with trees uprooted and electricity poles and cables destroyed. The storm has caused extensive damage to a house and also roof of the SKME school building in Kalakote.
Residents have urged the Government to provide immediate compensation and relief assistance.
