2-days conference on performing arts by Samooh Theatre commences

JAMMU, Aug 17: The two days conference on performing arts, being organised by Samooh Theatre commenced with the reciting of Digri Bhakh at KL Saigal hall, here.
On the occasion, Kiran Wattal, Former Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) was the chief guest, while Prof (Dr) Sunita Dhir, eminent film and theatre actress, Director, Former HOD Theatre and TV Department Punjabi University, Patiala was also present.
While speaking, Kiran Wattal said that with this conference, the Samooh Theatre is giving chance to scholars and the artists to put forth their views and chalk out the strategies and further course of action to promote the regional performing arts in the State.
Earlier, while welcoming the gathering, Dr Sudhir Mahajan aware the guests about the activities being carried out by Samooh Theatre for the past 25 years in the field of literary, culture and social development by organising various kind of events in the respective fields.
Senior Theatre Director and Play Writer Kumar A Bharti presented the key note address.
In the second session, a panel discussion was held, wherein senior actress and directors through their deliberation put the light on the present scenario of theatre art, its problems and prospects.
The artists who took part in the discussion were Janak Khajuria, Pankaj Khajuria, Gurmeet Jamwal, Shashi Bhushan and Rohit Bhat, while Kusum Tickoo anchored the panel discussion.
In the 3rd session, short plays were presented by Nav Durga Kala Manch and Samooh Theatre under the direction of Shashi Bushan, Ravinder Sharma and Dilshad Shazi. The children who participated in the plays were Tatva Bhargav, Juhi Singh, Ritika Singh, Deepika Singh, Rohan Singh, Manik, Ayushi Bhat, Mehak, Tanisha, Vinay Khanna, Kousar Chandpuri, Rishav, Ashish Bhat and Dilshad Shazi.
In the 4th session, interaction was held with Prof Sunita Dhir who shared her long experience in theatre, TV and films.
Anita Chandpuri, President Women Wing of Samooh Theatre managed the whole event, while Kamal Chand Puri was the media advisor.
In the end, Dr Kamal Sharma, President Samooh Theatre presented vote of thanks.
