KATHUA, Feb 28: Two day national conference on “Role of Mathematics and Computer Science in Advancement of Physics”, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, was held at Government Degree College Kathua.
About 150 delegates from all over the country participated in the conference. Total 110 researchers submitted their abstracts and 11 invited talks were presented during the conference.
Dr Vishal Goyal from Punjabi University Patiala, Dr Sushil Kumar from Chitkara University Solan, Dr Rockey Gupta, Prof Romesh Kumar, Prof Kuldeep Singh Charak and Prof Vinod Sharma from University of Jammu were among those who presented their research papers.
In the 2 days conference, 20 oral presentations and 70 posters were also displayed. Another highlight of the conference was online presentation by Dr Rakesh Gupta from Manchester University, Manchester, United Kingdom.
In the valedictory function, Prof S D Sharma, Head Department of Mathematics, Central University of Jammu, was the chief guest. He said that Mathematics is a universal education and its application is found everywhere. It is a great contribution of the college in organizing a conference aimed at creating mathematical and computer science awareness among the young students, he added.
Earlier, the College Principal, Dr Nater Singh, presented a welcome address and also highlighted various achievements of the college, particularly accreditation of the GDC Kathua with NAAC “A” grade. He said that college is now regularly organizing seminars and conferences for the better academic excellence of the faculty and exposure to the students of the college to interact with national and international researchers and academicians.
Prof Arun Bharti from University of Jammu, delivered key note address. He correlated Mathematics and computer science with Physics.
The conference was earlier, inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof S K Jain.
