2-day long Jammu Film Festival concludes on promising note

JAMMU, Sept 27: The two day long gala event -the Jammu Film Festival which City of Temples witnessed for first time concluded here this evening. The festival was organised by Vomedh a theatre organization of the State. Screening of 37 shorlisted films and documentaries from over 11 countries enthralled the jam packed audience in Abhinav theatre during two days.
Vice Chancellor of Central University, Prof Ashok Aima was the chief guest in the concluding function while former IGP, Gulzar Singh and prominent social activist, Hira Lal Abrol were guests of honour. The concluding function was also attended by Kiran Wattal former Commissioner JMC and Advisor of the festival.
The presence of galaxy of Bollywood celebrities like Ayub Khan, Ayaz Khan, Kashmira Shah, Kapil Mattoo, Lalit Parimoo, Prahlad Taware was the key highlights of the event. The Bollywood celebrities expressed their delight over the fact that a film festival on such scale is being organised in Jammu.
“Jammu is a city with big heart. It is about time that Jammu gets the visibility it deserves”, said Rakesh Roshan Bhat in his welcome speech.
Jugal Kishore Sharma Member Parliament from Jammu presided the award function in the evening. Other prominent guests who were present in the event included Rajesh Gupta president Tourism Federation of Jammu, Raman Suri, Executive body member of BJP, , Ramesh Hangloo, CEO Radio Sharda, Sanjay Saraf, National youth president LPJ, DySP Dr. Usha Kher, M K Yogi and Aryan Ramesh.
“Jammu Film Festival represents the aspirations of the art and cinema loving people of Jammu to put Jammu on the world map of International film festivals’ circuit, said Rahul.
Two short films shown under special section showcased the shorts made by under privileged children. Kapil Mattoo the founder of this initiative Filmbug to teach film making to under privledged children was also felicitated.
The best short was won by S D a very sensitive film on female foeticide. Best documentary award was given jointly to Sandeep Singh and 26 October.
A short film on life of senior photographer of Daily Excelsior, martyr Ashok Sodhi was also screened in the festival.
Day two started with an acting workshop with Lalit Parimoo a renowned actor and acting guru. Vomedh announced that they would start formal coaching in acting with Lalit Parimoo to bring to the doorsteps of acting aspirants in Jammu the world class techniques and training
Famous actors from the State and jury members Mushtaq Kak and Lalit Parimoo along with other Jury members Kapil Mattoo a Bollywood producer and founder of Filmbug Neeraj Badyal and Amit Singh from Mumbai expressed satisfaction over the response to the very first edition of the festival.
Producer Pralhad Taware and Festival Director of Pune International Film Festival Amol Bhagat also attend the festival. Anoop Oomen a filmmaker from Kerala got emotional when his film was screened and appreciated by audience.
The inspiring icon award for 2019 was jointly conferred upon Rahul Sharma and Tanveer Dar of Gittyan fame.
Rahul Pandit, the CEO of leading IT company of Jammu, who is the man behind managing all the technology aspects of Film Festival said they could pull off everything in spite of the internet restrictions because of the collective effort of team and volunteers.
