JAMMU, May 10: Hundreds of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu today thronged the Maha Ganesh Asthapan at Lower Muthi here on the concluding day of two days function held in connection with celebration of Ganesh Chaturdashi.
The two day function started from yesterday and concluded today.
Besides the solemnization of a Maha Yagya which culminated with Puranahuti today, bhajan Kirtan and religious discourses were held during the function in which religious scholars highlighted the significance of Ganesh Chaturdashi.
The function was organised by Mahaganesh Charitable Foundation.
The Foundation has constructed a replica of Mahaganesh Asthapan of Hanand Chawalgam at Lower Muthi here and the annual function of Ganesh Chaturdashi is being now celebrated every year here with religious fervour and gaiety.
The grand Ganesh temple at Lower Muthi is designed on the pattern South Indian architecture and it is emerging one of the sacred shrines of the Jammu where large number of devotees throng daily in the morning to pay obeisance to Lord.
Besides, the temple a grand two storey community hall is also under construction and total project will be completed at an estimated cost of about Rs one crore said Prof O N Koul, chairman of the Trust. He said the Trust is involved in various philanthropist activities for the people and the community hall after its construction will be utilised for the socio-religious functions.
He said the Trust after the mass migration of the community is celebrating the annual Ganesh Chaturdashi function here as the Government has failed during last 28 years in rehabilitating community in the Valley.
He said people crave to visit their religious shrines in Valley and perform the functions as they used to do but due to the prevailing situation and threat perception it is not possible to hold religious functions with such fan fare as we used to do here.
He also demanded the passage of Hindu Shrines and Religious Places Bill for upkeep and protection of all Hindu shrines in Valley.
After the Puranahuti devotees were served with prashad.
