KATHUA, June 1: Two Head Constables were injured in village Lakhari after the shopkeepers and other people of the area attacked the police with stones during an anti encroachment drive in the area. The injured were identified as HC Roshan Din and Ashraf Hussian of Police Post Ramkote falling under jurisdiction of Billawar Police Station.
The trouble started when a team of Revenue officials and Police started demolition drive on encroached land in the area. The team was headed by tehsildar Ramkote, Bansi Lal and Chowki Officer, Gurvinder Singh. The locals resisted against the demolition drive first. Later they pelted stones on the police in which two Head Constables were injured. They were shifted to PHC Ramkote where from after giving the first aid they were discharged.
To disperse the mob police resorted to mild lathicharge. The Chowki Officer, Ramkote Gurvinder Singh said that the encroachers tried to stop police from demolition of structures and they resisted against the action. He said police is investigating the matter and all the culprits responsible for instigating the people to stone pelting will be dealt under law of the land.
