JAMMU, Feb 4: Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distributions (CAPD) Department, Jammu G S Chib has suspended two cashiers of the department and issued show cause notices to the two concerned officers of the department in connection with the lapse in handling huge cash, following incident of fire at the directorate on Akhnoor Road here on Sunday.
An official spokesman said that on the basis of preliminary findings of the three-member inquiry committee headed by Joint Director CAPD Jammu Reyaz Ahmed, the Director placed cashiers- Ashok Kumar and Ashok Kumar-II for the lapse. The cashiers had not deposited Rs 56.50 lakh cash in the bank or the Government Treasury but kept in the office. With the fire incident during wee hours on Sunday the office record and cash worth over Rs 3 lakh was damaged. The police has already registered an FIR in this connection.
Meanwhile, the Director also issued show cause notice to the two concerned Assistant Directors, CAPD in this connection. Inquiry committee members namely -Reyaz Ahmed (JD), Reyaz Choudhary Chief Accounts Officer and Arun Kotwal Dy Director Food & Rationing have been asked to submit the report with in a week.
The Director CAPD when contacted said that cash hardly worth Rs 70,000 was completely damaged while nearly two lakh partially but their numbers were intact. The remaining cash was retrieved. He said that inquiry committee is doing its job and report is likely to be received within a couple of days. He said that some lapse on the part of staff can not be ruled out.
