2 arrested with 7 kg poppy straw

POONCH, July 19: The police recovered 7 kg of poppy straw (bukki) from a Tata Sumo vehicle at Bafliaz on Mughal Road and arrested two persons in this connection today.
Official sources said that a police party of Bafliaz during naka near bridge on Mughal Road, intercepted a Tata Sumo vehicle bearing registration No. JK02T/ 7260 and during checking recovered 7 kg poppy straw. The vehicle was on way to Surankote from Shopian. The police seized the vehicle along with contraband consignment and arrested its driver Irshad Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohammed, resident of village Kegam in Shopian. Another person namely Harmeet Singh, son of Baldev Singh, resident of Ward No. 6, Poonch, travelling in the vehicle was also arrested.
The police said that a case FIR No. 122/ 2016 has been registered in this connection and further investigation was launched. Some more arrests are likely within couple of days, the police said . The entire operation was carried under the supervision of SDPO Surankote, Riaz Tantray and SHO Surankote, Charanjeet Singh.
