JAMMU, Mar 3: First Tumour Board meeting held today in State Cancer Institute, Jammu under the chairpersonship of Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu in which the doctors working in State Cancer Institute, Jammu discussed and planned the treatment modalities required for cancer patients.
This practice is a standard for planning the overall multidisciplinary management and treatment spread across over various specialties related to cancer patients as per standard treatment protocols.
A Tumour Board is a group of doctors (cancer experts) and other health care providers with different specialties that meets regularly at the hospital to discuss cancer cases and share knowledge. The Board’s goal is to determine the best possible cancer treatment and care plan for an individual patient. Having fresh perspectives from other doctors makes it much easier to come up with that plan.
Dr Shashi directed that the tumour board meeting should be held regularly for the patients who are diagnosed with cancer so that ethical treatment guidelines laid by National Cancer Grid-TMH can be implemented in letter and spirit. It was decided in the meeting that all the patients be provided free of cost treatment under Ayushman Bharat (AB-PMJAY) and various Government schemes in which funds are available for the patients suffering from the cancer.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta (Radiation Oncologist), Dr Rajeev Gupta (Medical Oncologist), Dr Rahul Sharma (Radiation Oncologist), Dr Sunny Jandyal (Medical Oncologist), Dr Rajesh Mahajan, Professor, Anaesthesia (Pain/Palliative Care Consultant), Dr Samita Bhat (Gynae Oncology) and Dr Deepak Kumar, Deputy Medical Superintendent, State Cancer Institute, Jammu participated in the meeting.
