1965 war veteran Caleb passes away

CHANDIGARH, Jan 29:
Maj Gen (retired) Salim Caleb, a veteran of the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War, breathed his last yesterday in the Military Hospital, Jutogh.    The war veteran had not been keeping well for the past one month, an official statement said here today.    Maj Gen Salim Caleb, then a Lt Col, was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra during the 1965 War. As Commanding Officer of the  3rd Cavalry in Asal Utar, Khem Karan Sector, he led his regiment to destroy 15 and capture nine Pakistani Patton tanks. The last rites were carried out at the Annandale Cremation ground at 1300 hrs today.
Lt Gen BS Sachar, Officiating General Officer Commanding-in- Chief, Army Training Command and other senior serving and retired Army Officers attended the funeral and paid homage to the veteran General. (PTI)
