JAMMU, Nov 20: The traffic on historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was suspended today after fresh snow fall while Army and Police rescued 19 people trapped in Pir Ki Gali area on this road due to slippery road conditions last mid night.

Official sources said that 19 persons, including a child, who were stuck at Pir ki Gali due to snowfall and slippery road condition on the Mughal road were rescued and taken to safer place at Poshana by Army troops. They were provided food and shelter in the camp.
Meanwhile, Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed today to allow agencies to undertake repair and maintenance work on the road.
A Traffic police officer said that there was few inches of fresh snowfall on the road at several places, including Pir Ki Gali, Poshana, Dubjan and Zaznar, late last evening forcing authorities to suspend traffic as a precautionary measures. The weather has witnessed improvement this morning, showing chances of traffic resumption on the road.
He said a massive rescue operation was launched when a report was received that about 19-20 persons were struck at Pir Ki Gali due to snowfall and slippery road condition. All the stranded persons, including a child, were rescued and taken to an Army camp.
