JAMMU : As many as 1,816 foreigners, including many refugees, were residing in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir government today informed the state Assembly today.
In a written reply to the question of Chaman Lal Gupta, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said 1,816 foreign nationals were residing in Jammu on different grounds.
Of them, 381 Myanmar (Burma) families comprising 1,621 people were presently residing in Jammu district, he said.
The Chief Minister further said that of these Myanmar families, 351 families comprising 1,467 members were in possession of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards and the remaining 30 families comprising 145 members were without such cards.
As on January 31 this year, 195 foreigners were residing in Jammu province on different grounds, he said. (AGENCIES)
