18 bovines rescued, driver arrested

SAMBA, Oct 23: Continuing its drive against bovines smuggling, district police Samba foiled an attempt to smuggle bovines by rescuing 18 bovines after arresting a bovine smuggler in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal.
A police party of PS Ghagwal, while performing vehicle checking duty at naka NHW Tapyal, Ghagwal signalled a truck bearing Registration Number JKO8F/ 6295 which was coming from Kathua side and moving towards Valley to stop.
On seeing the naka party, the driver accelerated the speed of vehicle and tried to flee from the spot. But the alert cops after a successful chase, apprehended the driver along with truck within a few metres away from the naka point.
During checking of the vehicle, 18 bovines were found laden inside the vehicle without any permission. The accused driver identified as Mohd Yaqoob, son of Jamal Din of Saral, tehsil Haveli, district Poonch has been arrested on spot.
All the cattle were rescued and shifted to a safer place. The vehicle used for transporting bovines was also seized on spot.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 178/2021 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act stands registered at PS Ghagwal and investigation started.
