178 kg of poppy straw seized, 3 held

UDHAMPUR, June 4:  The police recovered 178 kg of poppy straw and arrested three drug-peddlers in Jakheni area of National Highway here today.
Giving details Rajiv Pandey, SSP Udhampur said a Police party led by SHO Udhampur Vijay Choudhary under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch Addl SP Udhampur laid a naka at Jakhani, on National Highway.
During checking, police party intercepted a truck bearing registration No. PB 13Y- 5651 for checking and recovered 125 kg of poppy straw from the vehicle.
The accused driver namely, Sarwan Singh, son of Bir Singh of Gurdaspur, Punjab along with Jovanpreet Singh, son of Satnam Singh of Gurdaspur were arrested on spot and recovered poppy straw was seized.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 213/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station, Udhampur. Further investigation of the case was in progress.
In another case, police party from Rehambal led by SHO Virender Gupta intercepted a tractor bearing Registration Number JK14 D-0719 for checking near Malhar. During checking police party recovered 53 kg of poppy straw from the accused person namely Radhey Sham alias Munna, son of Ashok Kumar of Malhar Ritti. In this connection, a case FIR No. 70/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Rehambal and further investigation of the case was in progress.
