1625 candidates declared eligible for applying to Mains

JAMMU, Aug 28: Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission (PSC) today declared the result of the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination, which was held in the first week of this month.
Out of 14403 candidates appearing in the KAS Preliminary examination, a total of 1625 candidates have been provisionally declared eligible for applying to Mains examination to be conducted by Public Service Commission, official spokesman said.
A total of 18,257 applications were received, out of which 82 per cent (14403 candidates) appeared in the Common Competitive (Preliminary) Examination held at 29 centers across the State including 11 in Srinagar and 18 in Jammu on August 5, he said.
He added that out of 14403 candidates, 1625 candidates have been provisionally declared eligible for applying to KAS Mains examination, which is scheduled to be held from February 15 next year.
For the said examination, nearly 10,000 applications were received from Jammu, and around 8000 applications were received from Srinagar.
The preliminary test was conducted at 29 centres across the State for a total of 65 Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) posts, sources said, adding, that candidates appeared in two tests—General Studies and Optional.
“It was must for the candidate to appear in the General Studies paper whereas in the optional, a candidate has to choose one subject out of total 22 subjects”, he added.
Pertaining to cut of merit, sources said that last time it was 59 per cent and this time it has increased by 9 per cent to 68 per cent (306.933 out of aggregate marks of 450).
The preliminary test was conducted smoothly across the State and no incident of unfair means was reported, he said.
The invigilators in the preliminary test included an official from General Administrative Department (GAD), Chief Supervisor, Supervisor, two employees of Public Service Commission and Principal of the respective educational institutions.
It is pertinent to mention here that PSC is conducting the KAS examination on annual basis for the past three years.
