16 injured as excursion cab slips into gorge

SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Sixteen persons from Kishtwar district of Jammu Division were injured when an excursion cab met with an accident at Daksum in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district today.
A senior police officer told Excelsior that a group of people from Chhatroo in Kishtwar were on their way to Anantnag in a Mahindra Cruiser. “They were on a day long picnic. However, when their vehicle reached Daksum, it skidded off the road and went into deep gorge,” he said, adding: “as a result, 16 persons sustained injuries.”
The officer said that the injured persons were immediately evacuated and shifted to hospital. “Though most of them are out of danger but 2 critically injured persons were referred to SKIMS Soura in Srinagar for specialized treatment,” he said.
The injured persons have been identified as Naik Chand, Niha Lal, Amira Davi, Raja Ram, Krishna Davi, Chand Prakash, Shami Devi, Geeta Davi, Suresh Kumar, Koshal Davi, Santosh Thakur (driver), Ruk Davi Fatima, Om Prakash, Premi and Ghulam Hassan Kumar.
People from Kishtwar and other parts of the Jammu Division often come to valley through Daksum route for excursions. Meanwhile, a case has been registered by police and legal proceedings have been started.
