16 bovines rescued, smuggler held

JAMMU, Apr 20: Police rescued 16 bovine animals and arrested a smuggler from Lakhanpur late last night.
As per police sources, police team from Lakhanpur Police Station during routine checking intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK02AG-8645 coming from Punjab. To deceive the officials at Lakhanpur, the truck driver paid the challan for sugar while the truck was loaded with bovine animals.
During checking, police rescued 16 bovine animals and arrested the driver of the vehicle, who has been identified as Mohd Ashrif, son of Barkat Ali, a resident of Samba.
A case under FIR number 33/15 under Section 188 RPC has been registered at Lakhanpur Police Station and investigation started.
