16 bovines rescued, smuggler arrested

SAMBA, Feb 6: Continuing its drive against bovines smuggling, District Police Samba foiled an attempt to smuggle bovines by rescuing 16 bovines after arresting a bovine smuggler in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal.
A police party of PS Ghagwal, while performing vehicle checking duty at naka NHW Tapyal, Ghagwal signalled to stop a truck bearing Registration Number, JK02AL-6689 which was coming from Kathua side and moving towards Valley.
On seeing the naka party, the driver accelerated the speed of vehicle and tried to fled away from the spot. But the alert cops after successful chase, apprehended the driver along with truck at a few meters away from the naka point.
During checking of the said vehicle, 16 bovines were found laden inside the vehicle without any permission. The accused driver identified as Balbir Singh, S/o Kartar Singh R/o Chatha, Jammu has been arrested on spot.
All the cattle were rescued and shifted to safer place. The vehicle used for transporting bovines was also seized on spot.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 24/2021 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act stands registered at PS Ghagwal and investigation taken up.
