SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Fourteen shops and a seminary were damaged in two separate overnight fire incidents that occurred during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
One fire incident occurred at Kha Bazar Anantnag which involved a three-storeyed building by the name ‘Sheikh Complex’ belonging to one Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sheikh.
Officials said that in the incident around 14 shops were damaged which happened well before the fire tenders reached the spot to douse down the flames.
“The time of the call was 1:45 am and once the call was received, the fire tenders rushed to the spot for the fire fighting. The fire was brought under control at around 3:30 am,” the officials said.
They said that three-storeyed slab/GCI sheet roofed pacca complex having 14 shops, was involved in the fire due to an electric short circuit.
“The roofing, contents of all shops along with shelves were partly damaged in the fire,” officials said, adding that the value of the property involved in the fire is nearly 3 crore while the property worth 20 lakhs has suffered damage.
In another incident, a fire broke out at Dar-ul-Uloom at Aishmuqam in which the seminary was partially damaged.
As per the officials, the time of the call was 12:41 am and soon after the call, the fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse down the flames. “The fire was brought under control at around 4 in the morning after the strenuous efforts of the personnel from the fire department,” they said.
In the incident, officials said, a student of the seminary who has been identified as Suhail Ahmad son of Ghulam Nabi, resident of Kokernag Anantnag was injured, however, he is now said to be out of danger.
“One Darul Uloom belonging to Waqf Board, single storey pacca GCI sheet roofed was involved in the fire due to the electric short circuit,” officials said, adding that roofing, doors, windows, bedding, matting along with timber stored in the attic were partly damaged.
