Srinagar, Feb 23: Police in a series of actions that were carried out across Kashmir Valley arrested 14 drug peddlers while also recovering contraband substances from their possession.
The police said, in Baramulla, officers at a checkpoint established at Kunzar Market intercepted a person identified as Reyaz Ah Mir resident of Beerwah Kunzar. During checking, officers were able to recover 700 grams of charas from his possession.
“He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Kunzer where he remains in custody,” police said.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR 11/2021 under the relevant Section of law has been registered at PS Kunzer and further investigation has been taken up.
Similarly in Kulgam, the police said, officers at a checkpoint established at Nipora crossing intercepted a vehicle (Chevrolet Aveo LS Car) bearing registration number JK01K-8909 with two persons on board.
“They have been identified as Aarif Ahmad Ganie & Muzaffar Ahmad Ganie, both residents of Hassanpora Bagh Bijbehara. During checking officers were able to recover 550 grams of charas from their possession,” police said.
The police said that they have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. “Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. A case vide FIR no. 32/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in this regard.”
In another such action, officers from Police Station DH Pora while patrolling intercepted three persons identified as Abdul Majeed Malik resident of Nagam DH Pora, Zeeshan Ahmad Malik resident of Khull and Tawseef Ahmad Naik resident of Chimmer.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 90 grams of charas from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. A case vide FIR No. 16/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS DH Pora and investigation has been initiated,” the police said.
In north Kashmir’s Sopore, Police said to have arrested eight notorious drug peddlers involved in supplying drugs to the local youth and have recovered a huge quantity of psychotropic substances from their possession.
“They have been identified as Umar Farooq Sheikh resident of
Seloo, Muhammad Rafeeq Ganie resident of Ganie Mohalla Dangerpora, Sheikh Muzaffar Qadir, Ab Rashid Sheikh, Mohammad Asif Naikoo and Ishfaq Ahmad Khaja, all residents of Seloo, Rameez Ahmad Mir resident of Aadipora and Basit Hassan Mir resident of Changa Mohalla Arampora. They have been shifted to Police Station Sopore where they remain in custody,” the police said.
The police informed that cases vide FIR numbers 36/2021, 41/2021, 43/2021, 44/2021 & 45/2021 under relevant Sections of the law have been registered in Police Station Sopore and investigations have been initiated.
