SAMBA, Dec 11: Ghagwal police has foiled two bovine smuggling attempts by rescuing 14 bovine animals at two different places under its jurisdiction today.
A police party of Police Station, Ghagwal headed by Inspector, Rajeev Kumar, SHO, P/S Ghagwal, during vehicle checking naka at NHW Tapyal, signaled a truck bearing Registration Number JK02AC-9811, to stop which was coming from Kathua side. On seeing the police party, the driver accelerated the speed of the vehicle and tried to escape from the spot. But after given a successful chase by the police, the truck was intercepted near NHW Jatwal and found 12 cattle laden in it.
All the cattle were rescued and shifted to safer place by the police. The police also seized the vehicle which was transporting the bovines without any permission. The accused driver and his associate namely Mohd Arif, S/o Abdul Rashid, R/o Nagrota, Jammu & Kuldeep Kumar, S/o Rashpal Chand R/o Chack Murara, Bishnah were arrested on spot. In this regard, a case FIR No. 164/2018 U/S 188/RPC, 2/3 PCA Act has been registered at P/S Ghagwal and investigation started.
In a similar type of incident, two bovines which were being smuggled in a private vehicle “Scorpio” coming from Kathua side were also rescued and the vehicle involved was seized. A case FIR No. 161/2018 U/S 188/RPC, 2/3 PCA Act has been registered at P/S Ghagwal and investigation started. It is pertinent to mention here that bovine smugglers have now also started using their private vehicles for transportation due the stringent efforts put forth by the Samba Police on the directives of SSP Samba, Dr Koshal Kumar to curb bovines smuggling via district Samba.
