14 bovine animals rescued, smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Mar 7: Udhampur Police today rescued 14 bovine animals, which were being smuggled to Kashmir via Tikri under the jurisdiction of Police Station Rehambal.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that based on some reliable information, a Police party of Police Post Tikri, led by SI Balram Sharma, IC PP Tikri, laid a surprise naka at NHW near Tikri. During checking of vehicles, police intercepted one truck bearing registration number JK03B- 3738. On search 14 bovine animals were found loaded in the vehicle.
Police rescued all the animals and arrested the truck driven, namely Shafaqat Ali alias Shotu, son of Nusrat Ali of Marag Kaccha Ban Kokernag Anantnag, A/P Ragooda Sidhra Jammu and co- driver Ashiq Ali alias Ashu, son of Mohd Rashid Ali of Nagrota.
Police also seized the truck and registered a case in this connection at Police Station Udhampur.
