135 quintal ‘atta’ seized from FCS&CA store, samples sent for testing

JAMMU, Mar 16: About 135 quintals of ‘atta’ at new store of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department located at Nagrota was seized today by a Food Safety team and after sampling sent for testing in the laboratory.
A Food Safety team led by Food Safety Officer Pervaiz Ahmed today conducted a surprise inspection of the FCS&CA store at Nagrota and seized the whole lot of ‘atta’ which was near about 135 quintals packed in 270 bags of 50 kg weight each. The team also lifted samples of the seized ‘atta’ and sent for its quality testing in the Food Safety laboratory of Jammu.
According to the reports, the seized ‘atta’ were supplied by five different Mills-Durga Flour Mill, Bari Brahmana (8 quintals), Ambika Flour Mill, Seora, Bishnah (40 quintals), National Rural Flour Mill, Gangyal (40 quintals), JK Flour Mill, RS Pura (7 quintals) and Shri Vaishno Flour Mill, Bari Brahmana (40 quintals).
The inspection was conducted under the supervision of Designated Officer Devi Dutt Sharma, and on the directions of Commissioner, Food Safety, J&K, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar. The inspection officers also instructed the store officials not to supply atta in fair price shops till the outcome of the testing report.
The action came as a follow up of the Excelsior story published two days back in which it was highlighted that the sub-standard ‘atta’ is being supplied in Government depots.
