JAMMU, July 24: Three vehicles engaged in illegal mining were seized in Thathar area, here.
According to DMO Jammu, on the basis of various complaints regarding illegal mining at Thathar from locals, 2 JCB machines and 1 tractor which were engaged in illegal mining were seized and handed over to Police Post Chinore and Police Station Janipur.
Locals were regularly complaining about how illegal mining has made their area inhabitable and created nuisance, he said.
“The owners of the vehicles tried to block our vehicles to disrupt our functioning and forcibly entered our office in group in times of Coronavirus”, DMO informed.
“As per Court and National Green Tribunal orders, mining is banned and one has to seek permission from JKPCB and there should be approved mining plan and valid environmental clearance to run it smoothly. At Thathar, opposite Baba Khailakh Temple, illegal mining mafia was operating without any documents”, DMO added.
Meanwhile a joint team from Police Station Nagrota and Police Post Sidhra seized 10 vehicles for illegal mining.
As per police sources, in action against mining mafias and to check the violation going on in river Tawi bed area by the mining mafia against the orders of the High Court, teams from Nagrota Police Station and Sidhra Police Post led by SHO Nagrota Inspector Mohammad Shokat seized 10 vehicles.
The teams seized 8 tractor trolleys and 2 tippers, which were extracting minerals from the river.
The whole operation was carried out under supervision of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Lal Sharma and SP Rural Suram Singh.
