13 AK rifles, 12 pistols, 100 grenades seized

Srinagar, Apr 3: In a major setback to the efforts of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) to revive militancy in North Kashmir, security forces arrested 11 of its operatives and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that security forces achieved major success in North Kashmir during last two weeks and arrested 11 of their cadres and recovered 13 AK-rifles, 12 pistols and 100 grenades.
Kumar said that it is a major setback to the LeT in North Kashmir as they were trying to strengthen their outfit.

He said that on the basis of specific information regarding the activities of some of the anti-national elements, houses of Azad Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Razak of Shalpora Langate in Kupwara, Altaf Baba son of Salam Din of Rafiabad Babagund in Baramulla district and Irshad Ahmad of Silikoot in Uri Baramulla were raided last night and during search arms, ammunition and letter pads of LeT were recovered and all the three were arrested.
He said that during questioning it came to surface that all the persons were working with militant outfit LeT and were motivating the youth of the area by providing them arms and ammunitions to join militancy. They further disclosed that they have provided arms and ammunitions to some youth who joined militant ranks recently and are operating in Handwara area.
He said that one the basis of their information, today Handwara Police along with 21RR, 30RR and 92 CRPF launched searches in village Gund Chogal during which four LeT militants were arrested. Three AK-47, 8 AK 47 magzines, 332 AK rounds, 12 hand grenades, 3 pistol, 6 pistol magzines, 24 pistol rounds, letter pad of LeT were recovered from their possession.
They have been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Chopan son of Abdul Rashid Chopan of Shartpora Langate, Mudasir Ahmad Pandith son of Abdul Rehman of Zargar Mohalla Langate, Mohamamd Rafi Sheikh son of Mohammad Ahsan Sheikh of Eidgah Mohallla Langate and Burhan Mushtaq Wani son of Mushtaq Ahmad of Tulwari Langate were arrested.
Police have registered a case (FIR No. 104/2020 U/s 120 B IPC, 7/25 I.A.Act., 16,18 ,19,38,39 UAP Act) and investigations are going on.
Earlier, in two operations in Keran in district Kupwara, 10 AK rifles and 9 pistols and 80 grenades were recovered by security forces in two separate operations.
