JAMMU, July 16: 12th triennial conference of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association (Srinagar Division), representing delegates and observers across the State commenced at Press Club of Jammu here today.
The programme commenced with the flag hoisting. The conference was presided over by AM Tantray, president NZIEA, Srinagar division while Com Devi Dass, organizing secretary inaugurated the programme. A K Bhatnagar, general secretary NZIEA was chief guest and Naveen Chand, secretary NZIEA was guest of honour.
In his inaugural address, Mr Bhatnagar, lambasted authorities at helm of affairs against its neo-liberal economic policies of Central Government and said that these policies are a big challenge before working class of country. These pro-corporate policies are resulting into concentration of wealth in few hands and it is very adversely affecting lives of poor and down trodden members of society.
He pointed out that farmers are not being given adequate price for their hard work and they are compelled to commit suicides. Labour laws are being amended in favour of corporate houses to suppress working class. While Corporate is being given huge concessions, provisions for budget 2015-16 for education, public health, agriculture, women and child development mid day meals scheme etc has been drastically reduced. The number of unemployed youth has been increasing to a big extent. He pointed out that move of Government to destroy public sector by selling it and disinvesting. It is not in the national interest. It is great challenge before insurance employees to protect this industry” he added. He also mentioned about contribution of the LIC of India in nation building.
Devi Dass and Naveen Chand also spoke on the occasion. It was followed by delegate session with presentation of report by Pawan Gupta, divisional secretary, NZIEA, Srinagar Division. A large number of delegates shared their views on report. It was followed by open session, in which several trade unionists participated. Some resolutions were also adopted and passed on occasion.
