JAMMU, Mar 13: Minister for Planning, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said that the Government has acquired land measuring 122 kanal for establishing Industrial Estate at Surankote, and efforts are on to acquire land for establishing Industrial Estate at Mendhar.
Replying to a question in Legislative Council on behalf of Industry Minister, he said industrial development aims at generating employment opportunities in rural as well as urban areas by setting up self-employment ventures, projects and micro-enterprises for providing employment opportunities to traditional artisans, besides rural and urban youth through various schemes.
The Minister further said that the schemes undertaken by the Industries and Commerce Department are for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, besides Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme. Similarly, the Handicrafts Department is implementing Micro Enterprises scheme and Artisan Credit Card with financial ceiling of Rs. 1 lakh providing loans to Artisans and extending 10% interest subvention to the sponsored loanees.
Mr. Sadhotra further informed the House that Handloom Development Department implements Micro-credit plan scheme under State sector where under handloom weavers are provided 10% interest subsidy on bank loans raised by handloom weavers for setting up of their own units thereby providing them employment opportunities.
Similarly, Directorate of EDI under seed capital fund scheme SKEWPY, seed money is provided to the educated un-employed youth of the State at the rate of 35% of their project cost upto maximum of Rs. 3 lakh in respect of 10+2 and graduates, Rs. 5 lakh for post graduates and Rs. 7.5 lakh for doctors, engineers and MBAs, so that they are able to start their own ventures.
