Srinagar, May 11:Police in Anantnag today said it registered 120 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 118 drug peddlers during the first month of the 100-day “Nasha Mukht JK Abhiyaan”.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amod Ashok Nagpure, said more than 300 kilograms of contraband substances were seized in multiple operations conducted across the district over the past month.
The SSP said police also attached properties worth nearly Rs 10 crore in 14 cases under relevant legal provisions as part of a crackdown on assets allegedly acquired through drug trafficking.

In addition, he informed, two illegal properties built on Government land and valued at around Rs 3.5 crore, allegedly linked to narcotics proceeds, were demolished.
As part of efforts to curb narcotics cultivation, SSP said police destroyed illegal cultivation spread over nearly 300 marlas of land. Authorities also disposed of around 1,084 kilograms of narcotic substances after completing legal formalities.
He said that Anantnag Police has become the first police district in J&K to act under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act against seized conveyances used in drug trafficking.
He said such vehicles were earlier released to owners, but police have now initiated action for their confiscation and auction, adding that one such auction process had already been successfully completed.
The SSP said one female drug peddler and two women involved in narcotics cultivation were arrested during the drive. Two Government employees were also found involved in drug-related cases, and legal proceedings have been initiated against them, he said.
SSP said preventive detention was invoked against 119 alleged drug peddlers under relevant laws, while 80 Narco CASOs were conducted across the district to check the movement and supply of narcotic substances.
In coordination with concerned departments, authorities cancelled 13 driving licences and nine registration certificates in connection with narcotics-related offences, the SSP said.
Police also inspected 45 medical shops across the district and detected 15 violations, following which legal action was initiated against the violators.
The SSP said two narcotic hideouts were busted during the period as part of the district police’s “zero-tolerance policy” against drug trafficking.
