JAMMU, Oct 28: Presiding Officer Fast Track Court, Y P Kotwal today awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 to Sanjay Kumar, who was facing trial for committing rape with eight years old girl.
After hearing Additional Public Prosecutor G S Charak appearing for the State whereas Advocate Rozina Afzal for the accused person, Presiding Officer Fast Track Court observed, “the rape cases and the cases relating to the crime against women particularly pertaining to young female children have alarmingly increased in recent time and the social impact of the heinous crime as in present case when it related to a helpless girl child below 9 years of age cannot be lost sight of per se and it requires exemplary treatment”.
“Any liberal attitude by imposing meager sentence or taking sympathetic view merely on account of young age of convict besides his economic condition or other irrelevant considerations will have counter productive results in the long run”, the court said.
With these observations, court awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 to the accused Sanjay Kumar.
