12-year old girl found hanging, infant drowns in Tawi

UDHAMPUR, June 21: In two shocking incidents, a 12-year old girl child ended her life under mysterious circumstances by hanging herself at village Thaplal in Ramnagar Tehsil while a three-old infant drowned while taking bath in Tawi river in Kawa area of Udhampur.
According to the police reports, a 6th standard student, namely Sonali (12), daughter of Suram Chand of Thaplal, Ramnagar, was found hanging from ceiling hook at her house. The family members saw her hanging and immediately called the Police.
Ramnagar Police rushed to the spot and shifted the dead body to Sub District Hospital Ramnagar for postmortem and other legal formalities. Later, the body was handed over to the family members for last rites.
Cause of provocation behind the extreme step could not be ascertained while Ramnagar police has registered the case for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in another tragic incident, three-year old Mohit Kumar, son of Mohan Lal of Lower Kawa drowned while taking bath in Tawi River near his house, here yesterday.
The deceased along with some other children was taking bath in Tawi river, last afternoon when he slipped into deep water and drowned. Udhampur police along with NDRF team fished out body of the child this morning.
Sarpanch Meenakshi Devi has appealed the district administration to raise a boundary wall near Tawi for avoiding such incidents in future.
