KATRA, July 29: Degrees were awarded to 1165 pass out students of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra as 8th convocation of SMVDU was held in the university auditorium, here today.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also Chancellor of the university, conferred 44 medals, which included four Chancellor Gold Medal, four University Gold Medal, 15 University Silver Medal and 21 Infosys Foundation Prize of Excellence.
A total of 1165 students were awarded with degrees for academic year 2019-20 and 2020-21. These included 484 students of Under Graduate Programmes, 502 of Post Graduate Programmes, 98 of Integrated Programmes and 81 Ph D students.
Chancellor Gold Medal was awarded to Shubhangi Suri (Industrial Biotechnology), Simran Gandotra ( MBA), K V Hari Shankar (Mechanical Engineering) and Shubam Sharma (MBA).
Recipient of University Gold Medal included Sabra Parveen ( M Sc in Biotechnology) , Shriya Negi (M Sc in Mathematics), Anjana Sharma (M Sc in Physics) and Shubam Sharma (MBA).
University Silver Medal was awarded to Shubham Upadhyay, Porvik Gupta, Vasundhra Anand, Nikhil Raina, Sunil Bhawnani, Harshita Mahajan, Ocean Tikku, Bandhna Verma, Nitika Sharma and Simran Gandotra.
Recipients of Infosys Foundation Prize Excellence included Nitika Sharma, Vasundhra Anand, Bandhna Verma, R C Avhinash Sharma, Porvik Gupta, Simran Gandotra, Apeksha Koul, Anjum Riaz, Ishani Kohli, Aamir Farooq, S Gurpreet Singh Bali, Sabra Parveen, Shriya Negi, Anjana Sharma, Divya Manhas, Himia, Shubam Sharma, Shabir Ahmad Ahmad Magray, Soha Maqbool Bhat, Muskan Sharma and Nitish Singh Jammoria.
Earlier, SMVDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ravindra Kumar Sinha, delivered the welcome address and highlighted achievements of the university. Presenting the Vice-Chancellor’s Report, he said that the university has established performance benchmarks for faculty members and the schools to ensure a consistent improvement in the quality of teaching and research.
He said that in a relatively short time of 18 years, the University has made tremendous strides and has carved out a niche for itself in the field of academics, research and community service with more than 2500 students, 140 faculty members studying in 24 programs.
Besides passing-out students, their parents and SMVDU faculty members, the convocation was attended by Prof AK Bakshi, Vice Chancellor, PDM University; Ashok Bhan, SMVDSB Member; Dr Sanjeev Jain, VC Central University Jammu; Prof Bachan Lal, VC Cluster University Jammu; Prof Nilofar Khan, VC Kashmir University; Prof Umesh Rai, VC Jammu University; Prof B S Sahay, Director IIM; Mukesh Singh, ADGP Jammu; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Anshul Garg, CEO, SMVDSB and Babila Rakwal, DC Reasi.
