UDHAMPUR, Dec 23: Continuing its offensive to contain the spread of narcotic drugs & psychotropic substances, Udhampur Police today seized another consignment of 110 kg of contraband substance (poppy straw) from an inter-State narcotic smuggler, who was also arrested.
Giving details, a Police spokesman said that based on reliable information in another narcotic catch, a party of PS Udhampur, led by SHO Insp Sanjeev Singh Chib under the supervision of Zahid Saif Wani, DySP HQ, laid a naka at Jakheni, Udhampur.

During naka checking, police intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB29M-7601, which was subjected to thorough search. During search of the vehicle, 110 kg poppy straw was recovered from a concealed compartment.
Driver of the truck cum narcotic smuggler, identified as Veer Singh, son of Teja Singh of Ajnala Amritsar was arrested on the spot and seized the recovered poppy straw as well as the vehicle.
In this connection, a case FIR number 598/18 U/S 8/15 NDPS has been registered in PS Udhampur and further investigation of the case was taken up. With this consignment, Udhampur Police has succeeded in the recovery of total 852 kg poppy straw during the current month.
