11 NV students hospitalized

KATHUA, Feb 14: Eleven students of Navodaya Vidyalaya Basholi were hospitalized due to food poisoning yesterday.
According to reports 11 students of Navodaya Vidyalaya Basholi among them some were from Kargil and rest from different parts of Jammu, who complained abdominal pain and diarrhoea, were hospitalized yesterday. Out of them, two with serious problems were shifted to District Hospital Kathua while nine were admitted in SDH Basholi.
The SDM Kathua has issued directives to medical authorities of Basholi to depute a team to ascertain the cause of epidemic in the Vidyalaya. The management of the School has asked the children to use boiled water as a precautionary measure. The School administration also got potable water for the inmates of the Vidyalaya.
Principal Navodaya Vidyalaya Som Dutt said that the water used in the school is lifted from River Ravi. He said except these 11 children there was no complaint from any other student in the School who too use the same water and food.
He said the water tank and toilets in the School were also checked. A medical team will be deputed to School from Kathua tomorrow to ascertain the cause of the epidemic. Meanwhile, BMO Basholi at his own level has also started investigations.
The School administration, however, said that there is a fast food junction outside the School and some children take the food from there also and serving of contaminated food by the food junction can’t be ruled out.
