1073 perform darshan, one pilgrim dies another injured

JAMMU, Aug 18: On the 49th day of Yatra over 1,000 pilgrims drawn from different parts of country paid obeisance to naturally formed Ice Shivlingam in 3888 metre high Himalayan cave in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today.
Officials said 1,073 pilgrims performed darshan in the Amarnathji cave by this evening from twin tracks of Baltal in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir and Nunwan-Pahalgam in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
With this the total number of pilgrims visiting holy cave since the 62 day yatra started from twin tracks on July 1 this year has risen to 4,39, 845.
Meanwhile, one pilgrim died after a fall near Kali Mata Morh today. He has been identified as Vijay Kumar Shah, 50, a resident of village Tumba , district Rohtas Bihar. He has been accompanied by Mamta Kumari. He fell 300 feet down from the track near Kalimata while coming back after darshan from holy cave. The lady accompanying him was injured. She has been shifted to Brarimarg Base Camp Hospital for treatment.
The dead body of Vijay Kumar has been retrieved and is being shifted to Baltal Base Camp Hospital.
Meanwhile, 40th batch of 656 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas here for twin tracks of Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam early this morning under tight security in a cavalcade of 10 vehicles.
Among them 370 pilgrims preferred the shortest but terrain Baltal track while 286 preferred longest but traditional Nunwan-Pahalgam track.
