JAMMU, Jan 13: In order to celebrate the 101st birthday of Thakur Baldev Singh Chib, a function was organised in his native village, Satrayan (Tehsil Suchetgarh), here today.
The event was attended by a large number of prominent members from the border area of R S Pura and was presided over by R S Chib, former Minister, where they paid their tribute to Thakur Baldev Singh.
R S Chib, while addressing the participants, paid his rich tribute and described Thakur Baldev Singh as an eminent social and saintly figure, who remained closely associated with the common people of his area irrespective of caste and creed and devoted his entire life to the upliftment of the downtrodden.
He said that Thakur Baldev was an able writer and authored about seven books in Urdu and Hindi, namely Amar Kahani, Athara Din, Trishul, Jai Jai Rajasthan, Meri Pasand and Deva Watala.
“Thakur Baldev Singh was also president of Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha of Jammu & Kashmir for a period of nine years. His contribution to eradicating social evils and bad customs from the Kshatriya Samaj cannot be forgotten. He was also elected Sarpanch of his Panchayat, where he contributed significantly to the development of his area,” added Chib.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Ajaib Singh Mottan (Senior SC leader), Prof Jai Singh, Prof Sohan Singh, Headmaster Joginder Singh, Kuldeep Singh Kappa and Raghunath Singh (both ExSarpanchs), S Arjun Singh, Kasturi Singh Chib, Darshan Lal Bhagat, Ravinder Singh and several former Panchs.
