1000 ltrs of lahan, 30 ltrs of illicit liquor recovered, destroyed

*Drug peddler arrested with cannabis

KATHUA, Sept 5: Marheen Police recovered and destroyed around 1000 litres of lahan and 30 litres of illicit liquor, whereas Hiranagar Police arrested a drug peddler along with cannabis.
As per police sources, on specific information that a man namely Kalu, son of Bagta Perna of Persu Chakk is running the illegal business of preparing and selling illicit liquor at village Gatarua in Tehsil Marheen.
Acting over the information, a team from Police Post Marheen under the supervision of SDPO Border Sachit Mahajan and SSP Kathua RC Kotwal conducted a raid at Village Gatarua wherein approximately 1,000 litres of lahan alongwith 30 litres of illicit liquor was recovered. The accused managed to flee away from the spot. All the recovered utensils alongwith all the consignment of lahan and illicit liquor were destroyed on the spot.
A case FIR Number 173/2021 under Sections 48 (a) (b) (e) (f) Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Rajbagh and investigation started.
Meanwhile, on reliable information, a team from Police Station Hiranagar led by SHO Inspector Anil Kumar Sharma under the supervision of SDPO Border Sachit Mahajan and SSP Kathua RC Kotwal laid a naka and intercepted a person, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police team recovered 25 grams cannabis from the possession of the person and arrested him.
The arrested person was identified as Sonu Sharma (35), son of Surat Chand Sharma, a resident of Ward Number 2, Hiranagar.
A case FIR Number 116/2021 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Hiranagar and investigation initiated.
