Srinagar, Oct 20: The only road link from Haiderbeing to Khaipora in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district is in a dilapidated condition for last over a decade.
The locals of the area told Excelsior that the authorities have been turning a blind eye towards their apathy and have not been taking any developmental works in the area.
The road which is 21 kilometres long passes through at least 30 villages until Tangmarg. However, the residents said that the Government has not been taking their grievances seriously.
Locals said that the road from Haiderbeing to Khaipora (17 km) is in a dilapidated condition, however, from Khaipora to Tangmarg has been macadamized recently.
”The road is in dilapidated condition. There are potholes everywhere, thus making it difficult to commute and consumes a lot of time of the locals who have to reach from one place to another along the road,” said Muhammad Ashraf Khan, President Youth Committee functioning in the area.
The residents said that time and again they have been bringing the issue in the notice of the higher-ups but to no avail.
“Earlier the work was started, but then all of a sudden in 2018 the work was stopped due to the non-availability funds,” Ghulam Hassan Wani another youth said.
Irritated by the potholes that make commuting difficult on the road, the residents of village Behrampora, Pattan collected the money from the locals as well as the sumo drivers plying on the road and started filling the potholes on their own.
“The Government did not bother to even fill up the potholes with the result the residents of the area were compelled to collect money for the works,” the youth of the area said.
The residents said that people have to undergo a lot in case of any health emergency. “In the maternity cases, the people suffer a lot,” they said.
“The narrowness of the road is also giving tough time to the residents as well as to those who happen to travel on the road. In 2018 the R&B started widening the road from Hyderbeigh to Tilgam but due to unknown reason they left work in midway,” the locals said.
The locals are seeking immediate attention of the administration in repairing the damaged work and at the same time, widening the road and making it two-way.
“The road not only connects a huge population of one side with the other, but it will also provide relief to the tourist and locals reaching Tangmarg and then Reshi Sahab,” the locals said.
